Jose Mourinho: The Truth Behind Wayne Rooney’s Exit

By Kurt Buckerfield - Jul 10, 2017 10:58 AM @KurtLaduma

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has revealed the truth behind Wayne Rooney's move back to his boyhood club, Everton.

Official: Man Utd's First Departure Revealed

The Englishman's return to the Merseyside club was confirmed on Sunday, with Everton striker Romelu Lukaku having joined the Red Devils over the weekend.

Mourinho has now explained that Rooney asked to go back to the Toffees, the team he left for United in 2004.

"It is no secret that I have long been an admirer of Wayne; he has been a model professional throughout his time at the club and will remain in the history books for many years to come," the Portuguese tactician said, according to the club's official website.

"It is never easy to see a great player playing less football than he would like and I could not stand in his way when he asked to go back to Everton.

"His experience, focus and determination will be missed, and I wish him well for the future."

Rooney scored 253 goals in 559 games, winning every club trophy possible along the way.

I'm also a big fan of Wayne seeing him leave i think he made a great decision becose he was always going to be the second best now that United have any acquired the services of The Big Belgian Lukaku.

Rooney had outgrown Man U, who have new blood in their ranks, with Rashford and Martial both capable of playing forward, it was a good move for United especially for 22M...think about it, when was the last time Rooney had a game where he dominated defenders
