'Jose Mourinho Is Wrong, Paul Pogba Is Not Good Enough For Real Madrid Or FC Barcelona Yet'
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is wrong to think that Paul Pogba is already good enough to play for FC Barcelona or Real Madrid, according to ESPN pundit and Liverpool legend Steve Nicol.
The Red Devils boss recently claimed that Pogba's display in his side's 1-0 defeat to the Blaugrana on Thursday morning proved that the Frenchman is on the same level as Andres Iniesta and Toni Kroos, among a select few others.
The midfielder has impressed during pre-season, but Nicol feels that Pogba is not on the level of those mentioned just yet.
"Jose Mourinho is not afraid to open his mouth and say nonsense," Nicol said on ESPN FC.
"I'm not suggesting it's nonsense, Paul Pogba's got fantastic ability.
"His ceiling is at the level of all those players he's talking about at Barcelona and Real Madrid, but he's not there yet.
"To come out in pre-season in particular and say that, I mean what is he going to be like when he's fit?
"He can't be 100% fit yet, so what is he going to be like this year?
"Listen, Jose Mourinho is talking up his player, trying to give Pogba confidence which is great, and that's what you expect a manager to do, but I wouldn't look into it too deeply."
Pogba had an inconsistent start to his Old Trafford return last season, but did help United lift the EFL Cup and the UEFA Europa League trophy during that campaign.
