Romelu Lukaku scored his sixth goal of the season to lead Manchester United to a 1-0 win over Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
David De Gea, Lukaku and Nemanja Matic returned to United line up after being rested for the League Cup.
The Saints got off to a promising start and went close after 11 minutes as Nathan Redmond volleyed just wide from close range.
United eventually broke the deadlock with their first real chance as Romelu Lukaku fired home from six-yards out after his initial header was saved.
Marcus Rashford went close seven minutes later with a curling free-kick that sailed just wide of the upright.
That proved to be the final chance of the half, as United went into the break leading by one goal.
The Saints carved out a chance in the 53rd minute as Redmond skipped past Juan Mata before forcing De Gea into a low save.
Lukaku nearly got his and United's second in the 64th minute, but the striker's low strike was palmed away by Fraser Forster.'
Southampton responded with a change in the 71st minute as Gabadini replaced Sean Davis as they pushed for an equaliser.
Ander Herrera was presented with a chance to double United's lead in the 79th minute but the Spaniard blazed over from inside the box.
The Saints pushed numbers forward in search of an equaliser in the closing stages, but United managed to hold out for the win.
