Sterling & Sane Shine As City Crush Palace

English Premier League Report: Manchester City v Crystal Palace 23 September 2017

By SL International - Sep 23, 2017 05:53 PM

English Premier League

Result: Manchester City 5-0 Crystal Palace

Date: 23 September 2017

Venue: Etihad

Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane played starring roles as Manchester City cruised to a 5-0 win over Crystal Palace at the Etihad.

City got off to a good start and should have went ahead after 12 minutes but Fernandinho blazed over from eight-yards out.

Palace nearly took a shock lead in the 19th minute Ruben Loftus-Cheek cut inside before unleashing a low effort that crashed against the upright.

The hosts were dealt a blow after 28 minutes when Benjamin Mendy was forced off with an injury. He was replaced by Danilo.

City eventually broke the deadlock just before the break when as Leroy Sane played one-two with David Silva before firing Wayne Hennessey.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 51st minute when Sane turned provider to pick out Raheem Sterling, who slotted home from six-yards out.

It was 3-0 on the hour mark as Sterling netted his second by turning home Sergio Aguero's cross in the six-yard box.

Palace were then dealt a blow after 72 minutes when Christian Benteke was forced off with an injury.

Sergio Aguero managed to bag a fourth goal in 79th minute as the Argentine headed home Sane's cross from the left.

Fabian Delph rounded off the scoring in the 89th minute with superb curling effort from 25-yards out, 5-0.

City have improved massively from previous season's (as have United, Liverpool and possibly even Chelsea). Palace are also shaping up to be relegation fodder and this game had big defeat written all over it for Palace.

I don't want this to be an anti City post, it is more of a general worry. City are destroying the rest of the league with ease, Manchester United aren't far behind. In recent years the premier league had seemed to have finally turned into a competition. With the lesser teams posing a genuine threat to the big clubs. It is impressive to watch City crush team after team, but not at the price of turning the premier league into an uncompetitive league again. Like la liga, but with worse weather.
