Arsenal showed Benfica no mercy, as the Gunners romped to a 5-2 win in their opening Emirates Cup encounter on Saturday evening.
Benfica broke the deadlock after 11 minutes when Cervi's low strike deflected off Per Mertesacker and sailed past David Ospina.
The Gunners leveled matters in the 23 minute as Sead Kolasinac raced to the byline and lifted the ball into the box, where Theo Walcott was on hand to volley home.
The hosts then took the lead in the 32nd minute when Kolasinca played in Francis Coquelin, who teed up Walcott for the simple tap-in.
The Portuguese side managed to level matters in the 39 minute when Salvio slotted from close range, after an error from the Arsenal defence.
The score remained 2-2 at the halftime break.
Arsenal restored their lead in the 52nd minute Benfica defender, Lisandro deflected Walcott's cross into his own net.
The home side bagged a fourth goal after 64 minutes Reiss Nelson's pinpoint cross found Olvier Giroud, who volleyed home.
Six minutes later, Arsene Wenger's men bagged a fifth with Nigeria international Alexi Iwobi slotting home from close range.
Benfica looked to reduce the deficit as the second half went on, but they were unable to bypass the Arsenal defence in the second half.
