Alexandre Lacazette Scores On Arsenal Debut
Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal beat Australian champions Sydney FC 2-0 in a friendly on Thursday, with Alexandre Lacazette getting himself on the score sheet.
Per Mertesacker opened the scoring four minutes into the clash at the ANZ Stadium, when he got on the end of a loose ball in the box following a Mesut Ozil corner.
Arsenal youngsters Cohen Bramall, Reiss Nelson and Chris Wilcock all looked impressive in the first minutes of their unofficial debuts, along with new signing Sead Kolasinac.
The Gunners enjoyed most of the possession in the opening 20 minutes of the clash, with Ozil very much bossing proceedings.
Sydney were relentless in their attempts to play out from the defence, though they did look rattled at times, with Danny Welbeck and company keeping them under pressure.
The home side had one great chance in the first half, but they didn’t do enough to pull a goal back. The teams went into the break at 1-0.
Arsenal started the second half the brighter of the two sides, with Bramall having his left-footed half volley saved by the Andrew Redmayne in the 51st minute.
Minutes later Welbeck had a penalty saved by the keeper, after the referee awarded a spot-kick for handball in the box.
New signing Alexandre Lacazette was introduced 68 minutes into the clash, and looked lively in his first outing for the Gunners.
The Frenchman delighted Arsenal fans when he scored their second goal of the clash in the 82nd minute, after latching on to a square ball in the box.
