Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich threw away a two-goal lead as they drew 2-2 with Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena on Friday evening.
Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels returned to the line-up, while Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery replaced Kingsley Coman and James Rodriguez.
The Bavarians dominated the opening exchanges, but they were unable to break down a stubborn Wolfburg defence.
Bayern were awarded a penalty in the 33rd minute when Robert Lewandowski was brought down. The Polish striker stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, 1-0.
The lead was double after 42 minutes as Arjen Robben drove into the box before firing a deflected effort past Koen Casteels.
The score remained 2-0 to the Bundesliga champions at the halftime break.
Wolfsburg then pulled a goal back 10 minutes into the second half courtesy of a fine free-kick from Maximilian Arnold.
Carlo Ancelotti responded by introducing Corentin Tolisso for Arturo Vidal in the 65th minute.
Bayern should have restored their lead in the 77th minute but Ribery fired over the crossbar from 12-yards out with an open net.
The hosts were made to rue that miss as Wolfsburg leveled matters in the 83rd minute when Paul Verhaegh calmly slotted home from close range.
Bayern pushed for a winning goal in the closing stages but were unable to carve out another chance and had to settle for a point.
