Previous Puskas Award Winners Revealed

Previous FIFA Puskas Award Winners

By David Kappel - Oct 10, 2017 07:15 PM @kappilinho

Oscarine Masuluke became the first African to be nominated among the three finalists for the FIFA Puskas Award and could follow the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar. Here are the previous eight winners of the award.

Click through the gallery to see all previous Puskas Award winners.

On Monday, FIFA announced the three-man shortlist for the 2017 World Goal of the Year, with Masuluke up against Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud and Venezuela’s Deyna Castellanos.

The dramatic bicycle kick from the Baroka FC goalkeeper, which saw him equalise the clash with Orlando Pirates in the last minute back on 30 November 2016, is already South Africa’s fourth nomination on the Puskas Award list.

However, his predecessors Katlego Mphela (2009), Siphiwe Tshabalala (2010) and Hlompho Kekana (2016) all failed to make the final three.

In 2009, Ronaldo – then still at Manchester United – won the award for a long-range screamer against FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League.

Neymar lifted the prestigious prize for a superb solo goal for Santos in 2011, while many will remember Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s stunning bicycle kick against England that earned him the award in 2013.

Here are all previous Puskas Award winners and their goals:

2009: Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)

2010: Hamit Altintop (Turkey)

2011: Neymar (Santos)

2012: Miroslav Stoch (Fenerbahce)

2013: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Sweden)

2014: James Rodriguez (Colombia)

2015: Wendell Lira (Goianesia)

2016: Mohd Faiz Subri (Penang)

The second voting phase opened on Monday and you can support the Mzansi star here by voting for Masuluke’s goal: http://www.fifa.com/the-best-fifa-football-awards/puskas-award/index.html

The voting is open until 23 October, the day the FIFA awards gala will take place, and whether he will win the Puskas Award or not, the Baroka shot-stopper will definitely be invited to attend the festivities in London.

Do you think Masuluke stands a chance to lift the award this year? Have your say in the comments section below.

Good luck Oscarine, let us all vote for this boy. It will not help to comment on this page without voting for the boy to win. Talk is cheap.

@mdhindhi It was not all Chiefs fans who voted for Shabba it was Pie Rats fans because they wanted to spite Masuluke because he scored against them, they just wanted this to just go away from their minds but now it will be enshrined on the history books of soccer for years to come, Pie Rats fans please vote for Masuluke in numbers?

@mdhindhi (Be advised that the criteria made him to him. The criteria is a VOTE. Shabba won because we voted for him as one of ourown. It was club vs club. Let me remind you that Chiefs has the largest support base. Its simple as that). Now it is Country against Country Masuluke should ask Chiefs', Pirates' and Celtic's support to vote for him. Those are the teams with the highest number of supporters who has the power to vote. Supporters of other teams must also assist. With that mentality a South African guy will be victorious. So stop involving Shabba here, he won it through our votes. Now let us vote in our own a South African and stop confusing issues.
