Egypt's Hossam Hassan is Africa's top goalscorer with 69 goals in 178 games, only four less than Ronaldo has for Portugal. The Egyptian sits in 11th position on the overall international goalscoring charts, according to Transfermarkt.

Chelsea and Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba follows with 65 goals on national team duty, while former FC Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o sits in third place with 56 strikes.

Togo's Mohamed Kader, with 54 goals, and Zambia's Kalusha Bwalya, with 50 strikes, complete the top five African goalscorers at international level.

Asamoah Gyan is the highest ranked active player who still dons his country's shirt, and sits in sixth spot with 49 goals.

Further down the ranking, notable names such as Peter Ndlovu and Mohamed Aboutrika, who sit with 38 goals in 11th and 12th spots respectively, also appear on the list.
