CAF Confirm Changes To AFCON

By SL International - Jul 20, 2017 10:04 PM

CAF have confirmed that the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations will be held in June and July, and that the number of participants has been increased.

AFCON usually takes place during the months of January and February, which often sees clubs releasing their players during the season.

The other change to the competition will see 24 nations taking part, rather than the usual 16.

CAF were reportedly considering whether to allow countries from outside Africa to compete, but it was decided that only African nations will be eligible.

The competition will, however, continue to take place every two years. The 2019 AFCON in Cameroon will be the first tournament where the abovementioned changes will be implemented.

The timeline of CAF club competitions, namely the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup, will also be changed, and in future run from August to May.

These were the most important resolutions taken during a CAF executive meeting in Rabat, Morocco, on Thursday.

"CAF were reportedly considering whether to allow countries from outside Africa to compete, but it was decided that only African nations will be eligible." why did they even decide to discuss about this, isnt that other continents have their own continental competions?

I mantain that we will always be european puppets, I know they were the main influence on the changes. Will be watching tired and exhausted players from the english primier league. I applaud the changes on the CAF Champions league and confederations respectively, it realy wasnt making sense to be playing CAF games from a past season on a new season.

Hope now you can change the reffereeing system, these officials costed Southern teams big time, our teams have been victims of bad officiating. Look at the accomodation and how visiting teams are treated when play in your competitions, We can't afford to have players who welcomed by soldiers and sleep in bunkstul just like in the years of Issa Hayatou.
