European champions, Portugal had to settle for a point against Mexico, as the two nations played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in their FIFA Confederations Cup tie.
The Mexicans dominated the possession in the opening 15 minutes, but they were unable to carve out a chance in the 18-yard area.
Selecao had the ball in the back of the net after 20 minutes through Pepe, but the Video Assistant Referee deemed the goal offside just moments before Cristiano Ronaldo had struck the crossbar.
Portugal eventually broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when Ronaldo did well to pick out an un-marked Ricardo Quaresma, who skipped past Ochoa and slotted into an empty net.
Mexico could have hit back four minutes later when Carlos Vela picked out Javier Hernandez in the box, but the striker's header sailed straight at Rui Patricio.
The equaliser arrived just before the halftime break for Mexico, as Vela crossed for Hernandez, who sent a powerful header into the bottom corner.
The second started off much like the first, with the Mexicans seeing a lot of the possession.
Both sides opted for a change after 57 minutes, as Giovani Dos Santos replaced Vela, while Gelson Martins came on for Nani.
Mexico continued to dominate as the second half went on, but they were finding it tough to break down the Portugal defence.
Portugal upped the tempo and went close in the 79th minute when Quaresma forced Ochoa into a low save from distance, while Dos Santos fired wide at the other end.
Fernando Santos threw on the highly-rated Andre Silva a minute later, and he nearly restored Portugal's lead in the 84th minute but Ochoa produced a super save to keep out the striker's header.
Selecao were not to be denied two minutes later when Cedric broke into the box fired a deflected effort past Ochoa from close range.
However, Mexico secured a point in stoppage time when defender Hector Moreno rose well to head home from close range, 2-2.
