Siyabonga Sangweni has scored twice for Bafana Bafana, in two consecutive games in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Orlando Pirates defender scored South Africa’s second goal in the team’s 2-2 draw against Morocco at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday, as the host nation finished top of Group A.
Asked about the goal against Morocco, Sangweni said that he was determined to score when the opportunity presented itself.
“I knew there were many people in the stadium who were wishing the team well. I was determined to make them happy by scoring that goal. I moved from defending to attack and made sure I helped my teammates up front. When the ball came to me I thought about how I best could score, and when I saw the goalkeeper on the near post, I sent the ball on the far post.
“I saw it going in and my happiness could not be expressed. I did it for my country and all the supporters who come to the stadium, at home and everywhere, that are supporting the team,” the Pirates defender concluded.
