Komphela: We Gave It Away

Komphela: We Gave It Away

By Soccer Laduma - Mar 18, 2017 11:14 PM
Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela lamented his side's defensive performance following their 2-2 draw against Baroka at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night.

The Naturena based-outfit looked set to register their tenth victory of the campaign, but Mxolisi Kunene's superb individual strike forced the two teams to share the spoils and Komphela admitted that his side gave away maximum points.

"I thought the match had lots of energy, I thought there were instances where we allowed it to be open, we needed to control it more," Komphela said after the game.

"With regards to performance one can not falter them, there was energy, there was excitement. Even towards end of first half we saw how they finished the first half.

"And we continued in the second half. I think the goals we gave away were lapses of concentration, we could have done better. The first one was we lost possession in the centre of the field and we paid the price, the second one we allowed the runner to go on.

"But even before they scored that goal you could see more of a man that was going and coming going and coming like tennis.

"We need to be more in control so that we can dictate the pace of the game, one zero, one one, two one, two two. Compliment must also be given to them , we tried our best and unfortunately we couldn't get a win tonight.

When asked if the score was a true relfection of the match, he replied, "I wish I could respond not from the bench of Kaizer Chiefs but respond more from outside. If I were to make a response based on the fact that you are at Chiefs I thought we gave it away, we could have won this match.

"The first goal as is don't come near to that area, you can't play central when they are waiting to hit,  and the second one put pressure on that ball and it will be. But if you look at it from a point that it was an exciting match, 2-2, we wanted a point, so okay, so be it. And true reflection of the match, just accept and go," he concluded.

Maybe Kaizer needs to thank Steve for his services at the end of the campaign, honestly his decisions cost us every time. His decision to bench Lorenzo was one of three fatal ones he made.

3 matches 3 draws 3 pints out of 12 and no sign of Ekstein so that means more draws to come. We sit too far back with Katsande and Baloyi playing together we need someone to be creative. I still say Pule and Molanhoane will turn things around as well as Lebese as long as Lebese and Pule not there we will not win

Its evident that we need to control the game more especially when leading. We have Buchanan who can do exactly that, you couldn't wait for him to recover & now that he has, you dont field him. Sherrif is much more defensive to be in a creative position. Mido is more of an all round player in the midfield. Perfect for the "6" position, dont convert him. Play him where his most comfortable. Bring back Buchanan to fill up Yeye's void. All will come together. Also, give Ekstein some game time. We need him. We dont want to loose him like how we lost a handfull of player. Work with us Steve.

Steve will never learn....there r useless, senior players that he keeps fielding yet they rarely give returns....Chirambadare n Malongoane were making the team tick yesterday but those r the very players he decoded to pull out....
