Gavin Hunt: You Don’t Get A Chelsea Or Real Madrid In SA Football
Bidvest Wits head coach, Gavin Hunt, thinks there is no consistent team in the Premier Soccer League and any team is capable of a result over whoever they play.
The race for the Absa Premiership title continues to heat up, as the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns and Wits look to catch up with their outstanding fixtures and battle for the number one spot on the league standings.
However, at this stage, Cape Town City are currently at the helm of the log, with just one point separating them from their rivals, Wits, at second placed.
With two games in hand for both Masandawana and the Students, it seems that the league title is still far from the deciding encounter, as City, Wits, Kaizer Chiefs, Sundowns and SuperSport United, all stand a good chance at coming out victorious at the end of the campaign.
Speaking after his side’s 1-1 draw against City on Wednesday evening, Head coach Hunt thinks that there is no consistent team in the league and thinking about winning the title will only be problematic at this point.
“There is no momentum in South African teams, you don’t get a Chelsea or a Real Madrid in South Africa and we are too inconsistent. You will find that, Sundowns were fantastic last year, they had that run of 11 or 12 games. I think teams are very inconsistent, anybody can beat anybody on a given time or day,” Hunt told the media.
“Us, we have got some tough games there is no doubt about it but you will be surprised that the closer you get to the finishing line, squeaky bumps come. You know, people start making errors and if you find a team like even City start thinking about winning the title, that is where your problem starts. You’ve got to think about just one game and see where you end up,” he added.
