Furman: It Is Devastating

The national team Bafana Bafana were beaten 3-1 on penalties by Mali and eventually knocked out of the Afcon tournament in the quarter-finals in a game played at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night.

One of the players who missed the penalty was Dean Furman who told the Siya crew that it was devastating to lose the game in that way.

The Oldham Atheltic captain however said that the team should focus on the future as they still have important tournaments to play.

He said that the players thank the whole country for their support and urged them to continue rallying behind the team at all times.

"It is devastating. It is so painful. Personally I feel very bad to have missed the penalty. In the game we played very well and we could have wrapped it up in the 90 minutes but it wasn't to be. I can't reflect on the whole tournament right now as I am still devastated. After few days I will look back and see what I have achieved. But as a team we have to look at the future and build on this performance in the World Cup qualifiers. We still have important games to play and we need to put out feet on the ground going forward," the England based midfielder concluded.

BB tried their best but their best wasnt good enough. As a fan I thank them for trying. They were really fighting it out and wanted to do well, not only for themselves, but also for the country but unfortunately it wasnt to be. GI has a foundation that he can build on from lets hope he will be flexible enough to add on other worthy players to strengthen the current team. If he can give shabba and KG chances surely he can do the same to others.

We took things for granted and i dont think GI ever thought that the game will go to penalties, he did not know whom to pick for penalties; the guys did play well but they should have won were it not for our backiline who felt asleep n Mali equalised, better luck next time guys; GI must be kept for him to map up his way forward. Sorry Bafana

Terrific leadership and clean-up play, and made some crucial defensive blocks. He made sure he was first to the ball, and also covered when Khumalo or Sangweni pushed up. Unlucky to have his penalty saved. I fail to understand why Dean isn't our captain Bongani is so redundant

Equalising goal for mali ws caused by khumalo who decided to foddle his hands to allow cross instead of clearing a ball. Also the ball cm frm Gaxa side en fails to defend it.Sangweni caught out of position en hw cn a defender attack while we r stil leading en Yeye who fails to defend Keita. The main costs r Sangweni en khumalo
