Platinum Stars have initiated negotiations to extend the contracts of the players in the club’s long-term planning. Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Solomon Mathe is one of the players that the side has expressed an interest of keeping.

Mathe has done well this season under the guidance of coach Cavin Johnson, with the 32-year-old having been influential in Dikwena’s resurgence during the 2012/13 campaign.

Another player that the Phokeng-based outfit is trying to keep is Elias Ngwepe. The veteran defender is in the last few months of his contract.

The two players have a big role to play in Johnson’s team as the former head of the Royal Bafokeng Sports Academy attempts to cause an upset by challenging for league honours. Both players are expected to sign respective new one-year deals with the team.

Stars finished the 2012 on a high after winning the second quarter of the Q-Innovation. The team wants to maintain their position in third place on the PSL log, and challenge for the title.
