Cape Town City Coach Talks CAF Confederation Cup

By Soccer Laduma - May 17, 2017 05:16 PM

Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler has had his say on the possibility of his side playing in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

City will want to make sure they collect maximum points in their remaining two Absa Premiership encounters in order to comfortably make their way into the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

As it stands, the Mother City club will need just three points to book their place in the 2017/18 Confederation Cup. Speaking to the media at a press conference on Tuesday, Tinkler revealed that the club has already begun assessing the squad for next season, and are aware of what it would cost to play in Africa.

"You know, if you finish third, that's where you go, Confederation Cup. You obviously have to reassess the squad come the end of the season, we have already started doing that. You are always looking to strengthen the squad and get depth, but for us to achieve that in our first season is fantastic, and giving guys the opportunity of experiencing what CAF competitions are all about, what it is like to travel in Africa, the more players that experience that, the better, obviously, for the national team," Tinkler told members of the media at Athlone Stadium.

"(John Comitis) himself wants us to get there and he knows it is obviously going to be very important for us to look for sponsorships to aid because we know all the costs that goes into going into CAF, but I think now also I believe that the PSL helps to a certain degree with the funding so I think that takes a little bit of weight off the clubs."

I believe they can go all the way , in which most SA teams are capable going far and win it but in the end they throw the matches away due to cost and commitments to PSL , so some other clubs dont really take CAF competition seriously but they want Bafana to win AFCON.
