Benitez Defends Rotation Policy

Benitez Defends Rotation Policy

By Diogo Peral - Jan 03, 2013 08:39 AM

Chelsea interim boss Rafa Benitez defended his rotation policy after the shock 1-0 home loss to relegation-threatened QPR on Wednesday.

The Champions League and FA Cup holders were undone by former player Shaun Wright-Phillips's 78th minute decider, with Benitez opting to rest the likes of Ramires, Juan Mata and Eden Hazard for the encounter.

"We were tired and weren't precise. We made a mistake and gave them their chance," Benitez said.

"I don't regret the changes because we can't carry on with the same players in every game.

"If you're playing a team at the bottom of the table at home, you have to trust your players and I trust them."

Meanwhile, Hoops boss Harry Redknapp hopes the win, the club's first at Stamford Bridge in three decades, can help him attract quality players in the transfer window.

"If I can improve the squad in the window it will give us a chance. This win is very important for us when it comes to signing players," Redknapp said.

"They might think that now we do have a chance and it would be nice to try and help us get out of this mess and achieve something. Let's be up for the challenge."

He added that he wanted to sign Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole, but says the 31-year-old opted to join his boyhood team West Ham.

"I lost Joe who would have been my first signing. He probably looked here and thought 'Harry I love you but you're not going to stay up'.

"I like Joe and he would have been good for me. He's West Ham and they love him there. I thought he was coming for sure but West Ham came in today."

1st half was boring , we were just watching Luiz and Ivanovic shooting practice . Should have started with Mata at the 2nd half .

He was emulating his role model SAF. He saw that SAF rested his big guns in last weekend's game and he was like ohk, let me try that. Little did he know that no one can be like SAF. Benitez does not have the leverage to do that, he must just stick to his winning. What a dumbass. Hahaha!!
