The German rivals unveiled their new kits on the same day, with Dortmund announcing that their 2017/18 home strip will be worn for the first time in the upcoming DFB Cup final.
"PUMA and Borussia Dortmund are presenting the new home jersey for the upcoming season under the slogan 'Pure Emotion'," an official statement from Dortmund and PUMA read.
"BVB and its fan base are characterised by passion, willpower, enthusiasm and the joy of the game. The new home jersey designed for BVB by PUMA pays tribute to these sentiments and will bring the club and its fans even closer together."
Dortmund star Marco Reus believes the new kit looks "really cool".
"I like the new design that PUMA has developed. The horizontal stripes with the colour gradient are really cool. We want to celebrate a terrific end of the season with the new jersey and then we want to attack in all competitions and celebrate great successes in the new season," the Germany intenational said.
Bayern, meanwhile, decided to go for a more classic look, with the new 2017/18 home kit celebrating the club's success in the 1970s, as Jurgen Rank, senior design director at adidas, explained
"The new Bayern Munich home jersey is inspired by one of the most iconic home jerseys they had in their glory past," Rank said.
"It is based on a jersey from the 70s and at that period of time Bayern were basically dominating European football. They won the European Cup three times in a row with players like (Franz) Beckenbauer, (Gerd) Muller and (Uli) Hoeness. The club and adidas thought it's time now to bring back this classic and great design, but in obviously a modern way."
