Van Der Wiel Upset With Ajax
22 July 2012
Ajax Amsterdam defender Gregory van der Wiel is upset that the Dutch giants are trying to sell him during the current transfer window.
The 24-year-old's current deal runs out at the end of next season and it seems like the with the Eredivisie champions want to cash in.
"I now know the club's policy," the dejected Dutch international told Algemeen Dagblad. "It's become clear to me that Ajax just want to make money off me. That's why they're pressuring me.
"It's never a good thing when your club wants you to leave. It's apparently no longer an option to stay.
"It's not up to me anymore. I do hope that the club realises I've been here since the age of seven. It's always been my dream to play here and I've always given 100 percent. And I will continue to do so until the end."
Meanwhile, Ajax head coach Frank de Boer added his take on the issue, saying: "Pressuring him? We have a certain policy and we've told Gregory about that two months ago. This is something completely normal. He knows what he has to do.
"We are happy to let go of him if the price is right. And there's a good chance that he'll get plenty of playing time if he stays. He might play every game, he might play just occasionally..."
