Spoiled Neymar's Teary Apology
17 September 2010
Has the fame gone to young Brazilian striking sensation Neymar's head?
Ever since making his senior Brazil debut and turning down a mega-money move to English champions Chelsea, the naive and smiling Neymar Brazil has come to adore has changed into a spoiled brat.
The 18-year-old striker has been forced into a teary apology after his recent on-field shenanigans left a bitter taste in the mouths of the followers of Brazilian football.
Last weekend Neymar caused a mass on-pitch brawl at the end of his club Santos' 2-1 away loss to Ceara. His vociferous accusations towards an opposing defender at the end of the match sparked the melee, which had to be broken up by the police.
In midweek the teenage prodigy then hit out at his captain Edu Dracena and coach Dorival Junior, after another player was chosen to take a penalty in Santos' 4-2 win over Atletico Goianiense.
Neymar's team-mates have clearly lost patience with him as his ego balloons, and have publicly rebuked him.
As a result, the youngster issued an emotional apology yesterday.
"I'm here to say more than sorry and (I expect) no pardon. I got home and saw what I'd done," Neymar whimpered. "I acted wrongly, I left even my father and mother shocked ... I'm ashamed of what happened.
"I say sorry to Dorival, sorry to Edu, who is the team captain, and to my team mates. I apologise to ... kids who look up to Neymar. Forgive me for what I did."
Such is Neymar's perceived importance to the future success of Brazilian football, that his club and even the coach of the national team, Mano Menezes, have taken his changing attitude very seriously.
"The club will demand deep changes in his behaviour on and off the field, with his colleagues and opponents and will support the player so this moment of difficulty can be overcome," Santos said in a statement.
"He needs to know how to behave as a stand-out player in Brazilian football and later out there in world football," Menezes told TV Globo.
"If we allow these (things) to happen with such frequency in his club, in no time it will get transferred to the Brazil team."

And so i thought only south african playas do that, wow.noticed something different though,The boy apologised, fully in tears,i wonder if any south african will do that.all they know is to argue their case when soccer laduma interviews them, singing the same song all of them. and i liked Klate's answers when he interviewed,he made it clear that he is not at pirates to win anything but rather to make enough money so as to secure his future after retirement, talk about honesty.
