Wasteful Chiefs Held By AmaZulu
20 December 2011
ABSA Premiership
Date: 20 December 2011
Teams: AmaZulu – Kaizer Chiefs
Venue: Moses Mabhida Stadium
Referee: Robert Sithole
Kaizer Chiefs failed to go to the top of the table as they wasted numerous chances in a goalless draw with AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Sthembiso Ncobo had two good opportunities in the first half, while Jimmy Tau could have won it for Amakhosi near the end.
George Lebese had a chance to open in the tenth minute, but the midfielder appeared to be taken by surprise as he failed to get the vital final touch on a Mandla Masongo cross.
Amakhosi had the ball in the back of the net five minutes later when Ncobo turned Jimmy Jambo's cross into the net, but the striker was correctly denied by the offside flag.
Just before the half hour Usuthu coach Roger Palmgren was dealt a major blow as left-back Marc van Heerden was forced off the field through injury. The 23-year-old underwent treatment on the side of the pitch and while Chiefs had the extra man advantage, Ncobo had a clear chance as he collected Masongo's pass on the edge of the area and had only goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini to beat. This time he missed the target as he chose power over accuracy.
Immediately after the chance Palmgren made the substitution as he brought Moses Chavula on, but Ncobo had a similar chance seconds later and again he pulled it wide of the target.
Just two minutes after seeing van Heerden limp off, Tshweu Mokoro was also stretchered off and this time Palmgren learned his lesson and wasted no time in calling Ramson Zhuwawo off the bench.
Both teams tried hard for the opener in the second period and the Chiefs fans had an air of expectancy when Siphiwe Tshabalala lined up a free-kick just outside the area, but the usually lethal left-foot of the midfielder directed the chance over the bar.
At the opposite end Goodman Dlamini drilled in a strong shot which looked destined for the target, but Arthur Bartman was able to get down in time and make the stop.
The injury bug then hit Chiefs as Jambo limped off to be replaced by Keegan Ritchie for the final ten minutes.
Jimmy Tau had the chance to win it seven minutes from time, but the Chiefs stalwart directed his header straight at Kapini. Mandla Masongo then appeared to have the better of Kapini after he cut in from the right wing, but his shot only struck the side netting.
The draw sees Chiefs go level on points with leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United, but they remain third on goal difference. AmaZulu meanwhile remain ninth.
Adidas Adizero F50 Moment:
It proved a decisive moment on the half-hour when Sthembiso Ncobo found the back of the net after collecting Jimmy Jambo's inch-perfect cross. It was a great finish by the striker, but he regrettably mistimed his run and saw the offside flag deny him the goal.

There has been (rightly so) some league title defence concerns by some Bucs family members, largely due to the 5losses in just 14games. Needless to say critics have written us off already while they are noncommittal as to whether they think their teams will win it.Generally all the teams leading the race aint that consistent but just grind results here & there,as evidenced by the fact that despite losing 5games already, like last season, at this time, Bucs is just a mere 7pts from log leaders. I would say games played thus far are too little & pt gap btwn teams not that significant & the performances of the leading teams aint that consistent to then predict where the title will ultimately go to. PSL title is too far to be realised by any team. Let the games continue.

He he he this is what small teams do, they always freeze on big occasions. They got a chance to hold the umbrella yesterday but they freezed with donkies like NgCowbo and that one leg donkey Goerge Cowbese missing sitters. I blame Bobby for not preparing a brown envelope like he did on saturday.
