Van Heerden: Competition Is Good

Golden Arrows midfielder, Elrio van Heerden, has insisted that the new influx of players at the club is good for the team and that nobody is threatened by the competition it will bring about.

Van Heerden, who was the first Arrows signing of Muhsin Ertugral’s reign at the Durban team, has seen the side go from strength to strength under the Turk and thinks that the team can only get better with the likes of Clifford Ngobeni in their squad. The former Club Brugge man told the Siya crew, “The competition for places is good, it makes you up your own work rate. Most of the players knew the guys who have come in so they got a good welcome.”

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old winger went on to say that he’s happy with the way things are going at the moment and that he and his teammates can’t wait for the league to resume. He said, “It’s going good, we’ve got some new players in, everyone is really fired up and we’re ready for the second half of the season. The break has meant that the coach can try some new stuff, maybe it was a bit of a positive for us. It gave the new players time to settle in. The coach’s idea was to strengthen the team. He’s done that, the team is stronger, it was good before, but now it’s down to us. We’ll push for the top six or the top eight, that’s where we’re meant to be. We’ll push until the end to be as successful as we can. We’re just looking forward.”

Van Heerden has taken part in every league game under Ertugral since he joined Abafana Bes’thende and he will be keen to continue to play a part in the side’s attempt to push the rest of the league down to the wire in the second half of the season.
