The Big Soweto Derby Debate

27 November 2012

The upcoming Soweto Derby is one of the biggest and most anticipated in recent years! The Absa Premiership’s early frontrunners, Kaizer Chiefs, have been chased down by defending PSL champions, Orlando Pirates, with only a single point separating the two teams at the top of the log.

Ahead of the game, some crucial questions need answering, to determine who holds the advantage, if any!

Who has the momentum? Have Bucs hit form at the right time, or can Chiefs turn on the glamorous football? Who holds the upper-hand in the central midfield department?  Will Bucs’ ruggedness and mobility overrun Chiefs, or can the excellent Reneilwe Letsholonyane turn on the class and style in the middle of the park?

How will Chiefs’ fullbacks cope with Pirates’ squadron of flying wingers? Can the solid but largely inexperienced Tefu Mashamaite and Eric Mathoho stand up to the big test?

How will Lucky Lekgwathi and company cope with the red hot Lehlohonolo Majoro’s pace and movement? How should Derby novices, Stuart Baxter and Roger de Sa, approach the match?

Why don’t you have your say on where you think the December 2012 Soweto Derby could be won or lost? It’s nearly here, let the big debate begin as to who will come out on top!

I would love to see Ngcobo partner Majoro in this derby with Josta on the right & Shabba on the left, Katsande & Yeye in the middle, assess Tsepo against Ajax then we'l c how far he is cos he doesnt need to be super fit. we just need his brains

On the other hand, Lekgwathi makes Nsimbi weak and a free way. Better play Gcaba and Nsimbi in the centreback position. No ways Kasande can stop Ace...The general was way better than this kasane. Come 8th of December, the best shall prevail. Hola Mabhakaniya,
