Roberts To Claim Number One Jersey?
10 December 2012
Ajax Cape Town recorded only their fourth win of the season on Friday night, after edging Maritzburg United by a single goal at the Athlone Stadium in the Mother City. Toriq Losper scored the game’s only goal in the 1-0 victory, as the Urban Warriors moved into 11th place on the Absa Premiership table.
Goalkeeper Sean Roberts got a rare start in goals for Ajax, having started ahead of regular shot-stopper Sander Westerveld. The 29-year-old duly delivered for the team, keeping a clean in sheet in front of his home fans.
Ajax’s make-shift defence looked confident and comfortable with Roberts’ presensce between the sticks, as the team played some of their best football in recent times.
The Siya crew caught up with the former Sheffield Wednesday keeper, following his solid display in goals for Ajax, and he explained that interim coach, Jan Pruijn, has given him three games to prove his worth.
Commenting on the 1-0 win over Maritzburg, Roberts expressed his delight at getting a run-out. He said, “It felt good on Friday, the team played well and we deserved the win. I enjoyed being on the field and getting to play, it is not all that enjoyable being on the bench.”
The keeper said that he will be starting in goals against Golden Arrows and SuperSport United, in the team’s last two games of 2012.
“I’ll be playing against Arrows and SuperSport, the coach has given me three games. I’m looking forward to the next two games, and hopefully we can get the wins,” he added.
Roberts has been given the opportunity to prove his worth in the team, and it will come at no surprise should he establish himself as the first choice shot-stopper. The Urban Warriors fans will be hoping that he can express the form that led to his Bafana Bafana call-up under coach Pitso Mosimane.

Westerfield is not a gud keeper, he's not doing the job between the sticks, he concedes a very simple goals

Ajax mst give wersteveld a clearance in Jan transfer window, he's useless Ajax conceded 22 goals behind Swallows tht conceded 25 in ths season so far, if Prujin wnt 2 keep tht position as a head coach of ajax, he mst not use tht overrated Palooka.

I still don't understand the logic behind Stelenberg benching of Roberts previously. Sometimes other teams self destruct.

Good decision making by Pruijn, its better than rotating keepers. Hope Roberts reward the coach with better scintillating performences than this Venster(window) guy.
