Pirates Thrash Leaders United

03 December 2011

Benni

ABSA Premiership

Date: 3 December 2011

Result: Orlando Pirates 3-0 SuperSport United

Venue: Orlando Stadium

Referee: Robert Sithole

Orlando Pirates ended SuperSport United's unbeaten run in emphatic style with a 3-0 victory at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.

Pirates, up against Wits in next weekend's Telkom Knockout final, cruised home through strikes from Benni McCarthy (21), Isaac Chansa (31) and Ndumiso Mabena (48).

In a free flowing game, the visitors threatened early as Ashley Hartog headed wide off a cross from Liberian marksman Anthony Laffor.

At the other end, Chansa and Daine Klate had wayward shots at Williams' goal before Davis Nkausu handled in the box. The SuperSport man can feel hard done by as his attempted clearance accidentally struck his hand.

McCarthy made no mistake with the spot kick, sending Williams the wrong way for his third league goal and sixth in all competitions.

Bucs continued to press with Chansa rifling the ball home after arriving late in the box following a sharp build up.

The host's dominance prompted Gavin Hunt to ring the changes, as he hauled Nkausu and Hartog off for Kermit Erasmus and Jabu Maluleke respectively.

United finished the first stanza stronger as Bryce Moon, Tebogo Langerman, Laffor and Morgan Gould all had decent efforts on goal but Pirates deservedly took their lead into the recess.

Julio Leal's outfit maintained their intensity, with Mabena steering home Klate's cross from the left barely three minutes after the half-time interval.

There were fewer chances as the match matured although SuperSport's Atusaye Nyondo and Gould did trigger fine diving saves from the agile Moeneeb Josephs.

However, Pirates were organised at the back and were able to protect their healthy lead for three welcome points.

Adidas adizero f50 moment:  Isaac Chansa rifles the ball past Ronwen Williams after Ndumiso Mabena cleverly allows Daine Klate's cut back to run to the Zambian ace.

Orlando Pirates: Moeneeb Josephs (Senzo Meyiwa 90'), Ruben Cloete, Rooi Mahamutsa, Siyabonga Sangweni, Lucky Lekgwathi, Isaac Chansa, Andile Jali, Daine Klate, Ndumiso Mabena (Tlou Segolela 64'), Benni McCarthy (Tokelo Rantie 70'), Thulasizwe Mbuyane.

SuperSport United: Ronwen Williams, Mario Booysen, Bryce Moon, Davis Nkausu (Kermit Erasmus 35'), Morgan Gould, Moffat Mdluli, Mogogi  Gabonamong, Atusaye Nyondo, Tebogo Langerman, Ashley Hartog (Jabu Maluleka 35'), Anthony Laffor.

Goals:  Benni McCarthy (21), Isaac Chansa (31) and Ndumiso Mabena (48).

If all our boys cud adopt Benni's attitude ie (knowin dat when they march to dat field they r @ work, with dat winning mentality) the 2nd star is on tHee way...Jali enough said, Captain ma captain...this team has a potential to inflict pain...But Bucks fans/supporters from Jozi don't go to stadiums dats ugly.
