Pirates In Kekana & Ngobeni Swap Deal?

29 August 2011

Kekana

News making its way to the Siya crew’s desk is that Orlando Pirates are in talks with Bloemfontein Celtic to bring Hlompho Kekana to the Sea Robbers’ camp.

Soccer-Laduma sources revealed that Pirates are talking to Celtic’s management and have proposed a swap deal involving Clifford Ngobeni. Ngobeni has still got three years left on his contract with the Mayfair-based club although he could be leaving the club earlier than expected if the deal does materialise.

The two clubs have been in talks and with the transfer window closing on Wednesday, August 31, the 24-year-old will know what his future holds within the next 48 hours.

The Source added that Mamelodi Sundowns have also made enquiries into the Bafana Bafana international and have spoken to Celtic about bringing the player to Chloorkop.

Celtic’s technical director, Mich d'Avray, confirmed the PSL giants’ interest in Kekana. “Yes, I can confirm that Sundowns have spoken to us about Hlompho,” said d'Avray.

He added, “And yes, their have been talks between Celtic and Pirates over the player (Kekana). We will have to see what happens over the next 48 hours.

The Soweto-born player played an instrumental part in coach Clinton Larsen’s team last season and the club is wanting to hold onto him for the 2011/12 campaign, however with both Pirates and Sundowns wanting his signature it will be interesting to see how it unfolds over the next two days.

“We want to keep him (Kekana) at Celtic,” concluded Celtic’s technical director.
