Pirates Hammered By Libolo

19 February 2012

Henrique

Orlando Pirates were thrashed 3-1 by Recreativo do Libolo of Angola in their African Champions League preliminary round first-leg at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday.

Maieco Domingos Henrique took advantage of some horrid defending from the Buccaneers to score twice in the opening 16 minutes. Henri Camara then made it 3-0 on the hour mark before Rooi Mahamutsa pulled a goal back late on.

The first goal came just 12 minutes in when Mahamutsa attempted a poor clearance which hit a grounded Libolo player and fell for Henrique to smash home.

Lucky Lekgwathi then fired a shot over the bar as the Sea Robbers looked to respond but Henrique would pile on more misery when he was given space on the edge of the area and fired a sublime strike into the top corner.

The visitors were not quite done though and in the 63rd minute Pirates were unable to deal with a cross into the area and the ball was laid off to Camara who rifled it home.

Pirates would pull a goal back in stoppage time when Mahamutsa ghosted in behind his defender and nodded the ball into the bottom corner but they will now have a mountain to climb in Angola in the second-leg.
