Result: Pirates 1-0 Santos
Orlando Pirates defeated Santos 1-0 in an ABSA Premiership match at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto this evening. A goal from Ndumiso Mabena handed Orlando Pirates the victory.
Santos dominated the opening half hour but they failed to utilise the possession as they could not break down the Buccaneers defence.
As the half progressed Pirates started to find their feet and began to see more of the ball.
In the 44thminute Mabena got onto the end of Daine Klate’s corner with a powerful header that found the back of the net.
The second-half got underway and Pirates began to play the football that has made them so successful of late.
In the 48th minute Oupa Manyisa came close to scoring a second for Pirates as his long range attempt went just inches wide of the post.
Santos’ best chance of the match came in the 66th minute but Moneeb Josephs made an excellent save
With 20 minutes to play Pirates seemed content to hold onto their lead, which they did and claimed all three points.
