Petersen: We Need a Good Start

15 February 2012

Peter Petersen

Maritzburg United defender, Peter Petersen, is hoping that his team mates can get off to a good start when the PSL resumes tonight.

The former Moroka Swallows man thinks that, with so many games in such a short space of time, a good run can build momentum and if they can start well then they can secure their place in the league.

Petersen told the Siya crew, “Let’s hope the break is good for us, if we get off to a good start then I think we can do well. The second half is always tougher to get points, but the sooner we get them and secure our place in the league the better.”

The 30-year-old admitted that, while Ian Palmer’s firing was hard to take at first, the team has reacted well and are happy under the new coach, Ernst Middendorp.

He went on, “Before Ian left he told us the situation, then Ernst came in and worked with the players, nothing has changed with regards to the team’s spirit.  The first few days were hard but it got back to normal, things look good now and people are looking to impress the new coach.”

Petersen, who came through the ranks at Hellenic in Cape Town, believes that the club’s new signing, Zimbabwean striker Cuthbert Malajila, can make a real difference to the side.

He explained, “He’s looking like a good player, he can definitely score goals. Hopefully he’ll add some value to us, he looks sharp.”

The Team of Choice face Wits on tonight as they attempt to emulate their early season form which saw them go seven games unbeaten.
