No Jali, Teko!

A Soccer-Laduma source close to Bafana Bafana has explained why Andile Jali, Teko Modise and Ricardo Nunes failed to make Gordon Igesund's squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Igesund, on Sunday afternoon, announced his 23-man unit for the continental showpiece, taking place on home soil from January 19 to February 10.
Orlando Pirates midfielder Jali, Mamelodi Sundowns captain Teko Modise and Slovakia-based full-back Nunes were among the notable absentees.
Regarding Jali, the source said: "His fitness was in question, which is not really surprising since he has only recently recovered from an injury."
On Modise, he added: "Teko was just unlucky. They were monitoring Thulani Serero's fitness, and because Serero was available, the opted for him instead of Teko."
Nunes was handed his national debut by Igesund against Poland in October, but was pipped to a spot by Bucs defender Thabo Matlaba. "Thabo Matlaba edged him out," said the source.
Other players who can feel somewhat unlucky to be overlooked include Pirates duo Sifiso Myeni and Daine Klate, Maritzburg United's Delron Buckley, Golden Arrows' Thanduyise Khuboni, SuperSport United's Bevan Fransman, and foreign-based pair Siyanda Xulu and Darren Keet.
As Soccer-Laduma earlier reported, Benni McCarthy, Eric Mathoho and Ayanda Patosi have been ruled out of the competition through injury.

editor wat do u mean wen u say myeni can feel unlucky? GI gave him plenty of opportunities 2 prove he can do wat he does @ club level 4 de national team and to be honest i think he faild. How many more chances do u want him 2 get?

A fit Serero never made any regular start at Ajax so its funny selecting him ahead of Teko,Khuboni and Klate who were regulars.
