Nematandani: 2018 Is Igesund's Target
04 February 2013
When the South African Football Association (SAFA) appointed Gordon Igesund as Bafana Bafana’s head coach in 2012, his mandate was to reach the semi-finals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
However, despite the team having been eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the Afcon, SAFA want the coach to remain in charge of the Bafana bench for the another five years, until the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani told the Siya crew that they have assessed the coach on his short spell at the helm to date and what he has achieved in that short period of time.
He said the four time PSL title winning coach has been with the team for only six months, and has already proven his worth.
“There are two sides to every story. We may not have reached the semi-finals but you have to give credit to the coach. He has only been with the team for six months before this tournament. The best thing we can do now is keep him until 2018, so that he takes us to the next World Cup.
“In normal circumstances the coach needs four years to be with the team as that is the World Cup circles. I can tell you now that we will be sitting down with the coach to look at the way forward. We have to keep the coach until 2018," Nematandani concluded.

This lunatic is forgetting that he is not the only making decisions there's the NEC and the board that will make that call

Barca 4 Sky, WHO do you think wil be better coach than GORDON in BAFANA SQUARD, u can look all around the World and list only 5, coz in SA GORDON is the BEST, but if u don't have your choice then GORDON automatically becomes YOUR fist CHOICE TOO, (silence means concerned), as we ar facing WORLD CUP soon, give me ONLY ONE coach which WON WORLD CUP with FOREIGN COUNTRY, and would you like to EMPLOY a FOREIGN coach to help you Country in WORLD CUP unfortunately you meet his country to play against, Do you REMEMBER when PHILIP TROUSSIER (FRENCH) Lead BAFANA to MEET FRANCE in WORLD CUP MATCH, what happened, Guys we migth be a leaders of TOMMOROW so LET us use our MIND wisely,BARCA 4 SKY has been the best on evaluating and commenting but on this one you better think AGAIN MAN
