Mphela: We Have A Great Future
04 February 2013
Bafana Bafana were knocked out of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations by Mali, at the quarterfinal stage, however the team displayed that they do have a bright future ahead.
Striker Katlego "Killer" Mphela believes that with South Africa’s young talents emerging on the international stage, Bafana is heading in the right direction. The Mamelodi Sundowns striker, who failed to score a single goal in the tournament, said that our young players coming through the ranks are quality.
“It is very sad that we lost on penalties but one thing that I know is that we have a great future. If you look at how many young players are in the team, then you know that the future of South African football is great.
“What we need to do is keep the team together and play as many games as we can. We would have loved to go far in the tournament but it wasn't to be. But as the future is concerned, we have a great one," Mphela concluded.

My question to mr. "No goal" Mphela is, which talent? I'm asking this, 'cause South Africa seem to have a blind eye on youngsters, more especially if you are not based overseas. One other thing is how do you select a player you claim to be the best striker, but have not been playing for over six months? If history gives one an advantage for one's inclusion in the national team, then McCarthey and Bartlett were denied the chance to bring us glory.

That is true - for so long as we keep a Coach with a head above one's shoulders, then the future of our football looks good. Our players need experience, at least some got that during the tournament, we need to play more South American opposition to learn when to make runs, dribble, tactics applied during the game. Our game agaisnt Mali and Angola bear testimony of what is coming of our players - the best is yet to come, the Myeni's, Khune's, Meyiwa's, Lebese's,Baloyi's, Majoro's, Mathoho's, Jali's, etc of our football will be grazing the fields with all the courage and vigour required to perfom at the highest level, Golden Blood!!!
