Mphela Leads Sundowns To Victory

09 December 2012

Katlego Mphela

Absa Premiership

Result: Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 Black Leopards

Date: 9 December 2012

Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium

A Katlego Mphela goal gave Mamelodi Sundowns a vital 1-0 win over Black Leopards in their Absa Premiership clash on Sunday.

There was a great chance on 16 minutes when Nyasha Mushekwi was played into space, but the striker just lifted his head and failed to make a  solid connection with his final strike.

Just on 22 minutes it was Mushekwi again who caused trouble for the Leopards defence. This time it was a quick run down the left before he crossed to Katlego Mphela who expertly headed his first goal of the season.

It was so nearly 2-0 on the half hour when Leopards defender Humphrey Kekana allowed Mphela to get behind him and blast a shot, but fortunately goalkeeper Bruce Mtshali produced a reaction save from point-blank range.

Lidoda Duvha tried had to push for an equaliser and it nearly came on the stroke of the break when Raymond Monama’s shot brought out a good save from Wayne Sandilands.

After the break The Brazlians had another chance when they were awarded a free-kick in a threatening area, but Teko Modise’s spot-kick bashed straight into the wall. The home side then got a bit of a let off when Jean Mugananga was afforded a free header, but failed to test Sandilands on this occasion.

There was a huge shout for a penalty just before the hour when Mphela was brought down in the area by Siphamandla Sithole, but the referee waved play on.

Just after the hour Modise orchestrated a breakaway and passed out wide to Anthony Laffor who had plenty of options, but chose to shoot and his effort flew harmlessly across the face of goal.

Leopards were unlucky not to get a penalty of their own when Tebogo Langerman interfered with Mongezi Bobe, but there was enough doubt in the mind of the referee again.

The win moved Sundowns up to 12th on the Absa Premiership table.

Masandawana all is in good hands whem it comes to bench_leadership but as 4 management? A lot of changes needs 2b Done, operation get rid of makhanya, moloto and ngwede has to start, we don't need them at downs as they know nothing ka double-action.
