Mbalula: Bafana Have Made The Country Proud

04 February 2013

South Africa’s Minister of Sports, Fikile Mbalula, says that as a nation we must not be demoralised following Bafana Bafana’s elimination from the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Bafana was booted out of the Afcon after losing in a penalty shoot-out to Mali at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, however the minister said that we must be proud of the team and their achievement.

Mbalula said the team fought hard to reach the semi-finals, although in the end lost out to a top-ranked African outfit. He told the Siya crew that the players lifted their game and expressed a true fighting spirit.

“We accept that people are disappointed after the loss of our national team on Saturday. Though we lost the game, we were the better team on the day. The supporters showed the never say die spirit for their team and there is noneed to have self pity on ourselves as we did very well.

“What we should know is that there are further battles to be fought and won and that's what we should focus on now. The team has reassured the country's pride in them and we have to continue supporting them. They have made the country proud," Mbalula expressed.

3. As much as we need to support all our natiinal teams no matter what, but alsone need to provide space for disputation and rebuke mediocre. We must learn to invigorate our criticism mechanics so that we develop a system and a culture that will enable every1 who ckaim to represent feel it when we approve or dismiss their input. So to Minister don't fooled. As much more as we appreciate the fighting spirit they show we also are proud of under achievement and the sooner they realise that the better.

2. Let #) Safa be made only of key social and sporting figures reflecting the demographics of our country's ecceptiobal talent. We need the likes of club owners, knowledgeable former playas, sports management specialists, corporate and reputable figures to run the association and not this current micky mouse. Such group of people need to be give space to craft a future phan for SA futball. Here we need at least a 10 year plan to lay the foundation and not this current schoolboy microwave approach we r fast getting to be acustomed to

The lig needs to be properly regulated in order to treat is as a countries prime sporting corporation. The sooner we release our proffesional lig from the shackles of Khoza and Mtaung instead we let it be run more like the English Premiership and the current version of Bindasliga. This were the issue of lig & the association is arrested by introducing a specific state regulated body to control their relationship especially when it comes into safeguarding what is of national interest.

Ya it has all dusted, & back to reality and I would love to share few things about it. 1. To Mister Minister we are far from being proud....you csnnot come and tell to settle for less. No not now and in the future. Remember we were once a continental powerhouse, we still have necessary accessories essential to build on our legacy. We have a global corporate competitive lig that needs to be treated like a national corporate treasure. Lets make work for us as a nation and not the otherway round.

@ju-ju28.. If indeed he is being offered less, -yes u ryt its unfair... Bt we cannot speculate as we do not know the terms of the contract. As for the players chosen, I don't have a comment on that bcos he chose them, he must have had a certain goal in his head. If u have read my comments throughout the torney, u will note that I lambasted him sometimes and congradulated him wen I felt he deserved it... To his credit he did it with the players most ppl (myself included) deemed not adequate enaf...
