Matlaba Agrees To Pirates Deal

09 January 2012

The Siya crew can confirm that Free State Stars defender Thabo Matlaba has agreed to a deal with Soweto giants Orlando Pirates. However, the deal still needs to be finalised as Stars and Bucs are yet to agree on terms.

According to a Soccer-Laduma source, the left back, who was out of action for some time due to injury, has agreed to a three year deal with the Parktown-based side and is expected to start training with the team soon.

“I am telling you he has signed and if all goes well and the teams agree the transfer fee he will be training with Pirates from next week. Pirates and the player have already agreed terms but now its up to Stars and Pirates to finalise the deal,” revealed the source.

Free State Stars general manager, Rantsi Mokoena, would not confirm nor deny the news, as he explained that he has just returned to the office from his festive break.

“I have just opened the office today so there is nothing much I know about that. I think they are just reports, I will let you know when I check,” Mokoena said.

However, according to a source close the Free State-based club, management at the club are interested in off-loading the player during the January transfer window and cash in.

Conquering SA doesnt satisfy the JUJUs, but Conquering Africa does. 'Operation vat alles' till Family business fc nd the Mines fc go bankrupt.

@TrevorvanWyk...its not a unique case bhuti, chips brought katsande who lacked gametime at ajax& was about to be offloaded....Teko wasnt getting gametime at Bucs when flops snatched him....Bucs lacks a reliable cover at leftback & has acquired a player that was at one stage even roped in the BB squad..he hasnt been playing largely due to injury. There is nothing wrong with strengthening yo team especially if u are on cup shopping spree.
