Maritzburg Reject Maluka, Assess Poggenpoel
16 February 2012
Maritzburg United have decided against the signing of Leroy Maluka but are still continuing to look at Shane Poggenpoel as he attempts to get back to fitness.
A source at the club explained that both players were at training today, although their chairman, Farook Kadodia, explained to the Siya crew that they would not be looking to bring Maluka into their ranks. He said, “With Leroy, we’re not interested in signing him, Shane needs to get his fitness back so we’re still giving him a chance to do that.”
Maluka, 26, has been playing in Finland for Turun Palloseura and has apparently attracted the interest of a few other European outfits since his return to South Africa, while Poggenpoel, 27, has been struggling to secure a contract at a club since he was released from SuperSport.
While Maluka will have to continue his search, it looks as though, as long as he can get back to full fitness properly, then Poggenpoel will be offered a contract with The Team of Choice.
