Leopards Keen On Mhamha

29 November 2012

Black Leopards’ technical staff have identified their defence as a department that needs strengthening.

The Limpopo-based outfit are expected to bring in some new recruits during the upcoming January transfer window and have expressed an interest in Free State Stars defender Phumlani Mhamha.

A source close to Mhamha confirmed with the Siya crew that the former Bush Bucks player could be heading north during the January transfer window, to join Lidoda Duvha.

“Black Leopards are interested in the player. They like him a lot and were very keen to have him, even when Sunday (Chidzambwa) was still their head coach. The player is keen on the move because of his current situation at Stars. He is not playing and will be happy to leave even if he moves on loan,” revealed the source.

Mhamha has struggled for game time at Ea Lla Koto this season, playing second fiddle to Soriola Gege and Sadate Ouro Akoriko under coach Steve Komphela. The 28-year-old’s contract with the team ends in June of 2014.

Leopards have also shown interest in former Jomo Cosmos defender Ofosu Appiah, as Ian Palmer looks to reinforce his rearguard.

Mhamha is a really good defender in the mould of Mbulelo Mabizela during his days at Pirates. This is the defender I really respect coming from the FSS ranks and Leopards wud be very fortunate to have him since Kompela prefers foreigners at his FSS defense.

I think Thapelo Tshilo is still a better option than this Mama who is 3rd down the packing order at Free Cows Stars.
