Igesund To Attend CAF Seminar
28 March 2013
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) are reportedly hosting a seminar to analyse the previous two editions of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations.
The event will feature all the head coaches of the countries who took part in these two tournaments and will look at all aspects from the Equatorial Guinea and Gabon 2012, as well as the South Africa 2013 Afcon tournaments. SAFA has informed Soccer-Laduma that the event will take place in Cairo, Egypt, between 11 -13 May 2013.
Bafana Bafana head coach Gordon Igesund along with SAFA’s acting technical director, Fran Hilton-Smith, has been invited to attend the symposium which will require each coach to share their views on the technical trends in the development of football in Africa, by means of a brief presentation.
Igesund is looking forward at sharing his ideas with his counterparts, who will undoubtedly have many positives aspects to share of their time in South Africa.
“This is a great opportunity for us as a country to share ideas with other national teams and federations especially with a lot of emphasis on the development of the sport on the continent.
“Such opportunities in which great soccer minds come together in the same room don’t come along more often hence I intend to make the best of this trip. There is great talent on this continent but it just needs to be nurtured in the correct way and some day we will become world beaters,” said Igesund.
Africa have an array of stars gracing the world football stage at the moment and Igesund believes that this assembly has come at the right time, allowing the various invited guests to offer their input to the game.
“If you look closely, most of the players from this continent are making massive contributions in big leagues around the world, the likes of Steven Pienaar, Yaya Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor, Michael Essien, Alex Song, to mention but a few, so this debate could not have come at a more ideal moment,” added the coach.
