Humble Slimkat Praises Strikers
22 February 2012
Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs refused to take the credit following a Man of the Match performance in his club's 4-3 win over Platinum Stars on Wednesday.
The in-form shot-stopper produced numerous saves to ensure his team got the three points which lifted them to fourth on the Absa Premiership table.
"Luck was just on my side tonight," said Josephs.
"I'd like to think that (my saves) were the key moments of the game, but the key moments were when our strikers stepped up and scored four goals. That's even better because that showed character.
"It's nice to know that my saves helped, but I'd like to give credit to my team-mates for putting the ball in the net."
The Bafana Bafana player added that recent tragedies at the club was the motivation behind the players' performances.
Two members of the club's backroom staff passed away recently as Josephs explained: "It was a tough match, but what really drove us and really moved us in this match was the fact that we lost two key members to our Pirates family – bra Ali (Albert Hlongwane) and Shoes (Jospeh Makati) as well, one of our media guys.
Hlongwane was a member of the club's security team, while Makati worked as a webmaster and photographer.
"It was tough at the beginning because we were feeling the loss that their space created, but after a while the guys decided we just have to push and push for victory. But Platinum Stars played well and had us under pressure," he added.
