FAZ: Every Chitalu Goal Is Recorded
12 December 2012
The Football Association of Zambia have explained that they have got on record every single one of Godfrey Chitalu’s Messi-beating 107-goal tally from the 1972 season.
Yesterday the Siya crew reported that the FAZ were trawling through their archives in order to prove that Chitalu is the rightful owner of the most goals in a calendar year record.
The five-time Zambian Football of the Year has shot to prominence over the last 24 hours with the news that Lionel Messi’s recent 86-goal haul this calendar year may not actually be a record.
According to FAZ, the late Chitalu, who tragically died in the 1993 plane crash that killed many Zambian stars, scored 107 goals during the 1972 season whilst playing for his country and club, Kabwe Warriors.
Now the association have explained that the results of the research has proved to be beneficial, and that the results have already been presented to their vice-president.
Erick Mwanza, the association’s spokesperson, told the Siya crew, “Our researchers came through today with some amazing results. They presented it this morning to the vice-president of the football association of Zambia. It’s all concrete, it’s recorded match by match, goal by goal.”
FAZ’s next move is to take the results to world governing body, FIFA, as they look to have 'Ucar' credited for his astonishing goal return.
However, many people find themselves wondering why the Zambian’s record is only being brought up now, and whether the evidence to prove his impressive tally will be worthy of being credited by FIFA.
FIFA previously told the crew that they were investigating the matter internally.
