Davids Happy With Middendorp

Maritzburg United captain, Fadlu Davids, has expressed his happiness with the appointment of Ernst Middendorp as the club’s new coach.
Middendorp was announced as The Team of Choice’s new head coach this past week in what some have thought is a strange piece of business by the Pietermaritzburg-based club.
The German coach was fired from his role as coach of the club less than a year ago and Ian Palmer came in and saved the club from relegation only to be relieved of his duties last week due to an issue surrounding a coaching course.
However, despite the fact that they have re-hired a fired manager, Davids believes that Middendorp is the right man for the job.
He told the Siya crew, “I think he’s the best choice, a new coach would take time for his ideas and philosophy to take shape, however, with Ernst having been here before he will just slot in. He was unlucky with results before but we played a very attractive brand of football, with a set structure and, with the strengthening that we've done, I’m sure he will do well.
“It was sad for all the players to see Ian go, but we respect his decision to further his coaching career, we now have to look forward and still keep focused on our goals this season, we want to get top eight and a cup competition, which is still a possibility.”
Middendorp’s first game in charge will come against Wits on February 15, when the league resumes.
