Davids Delighted With New Role

Maritzburg United forward, Fadlu Davids, has expressed his happiness at being promoted to a more technical role within the Team of Choice.
The former Vasco da Gama and Platinum Stars man has been appointed the role of second assistant coach to Ernst Middendorp and, though he is still available if he is needed for the first team, his main job will be as part of the technical team.
Davids told the Siya crew, “They asked me first at the beginning of the season but I said I wanted to play a bit longer. My ambition is to be a coach, Middendorp was the man who gave me the captaincy at the club and he gave me the confidence I needed. He told me that he saw a coaching role in me, he told me that I have the quality. For him to bring in someone new it could disrupt things, he feels that I can do the job.”
The 30-year-old explained that his aim is to become a fully qualified coach but for now he’s just taking this opportunity. He said, “I’ll still train, if there’s injuries or suspensions then I’ll step in but my main duty will be as an assistant. I want to do my levels and get my badges. I don’t just want to be another local coach, I want to be the best.”
Middendorp was given the job of coaching the Pietermaritzburg-based side after Ian Palmer was fired and will now have Ronnie Kanelelo, the former goalkeeping coach, as his first assistant and Davids as his second.
