Clarification On Afcon Venues
04 May 2012
Johannesburg’s Soccer City will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2013 Afcon as well as the opening game and the final.
Following the confusion surrounding the announcement earlier today of the Afcon venues the Siya crew wanted to try and clarify what was due to happen in the tournament.
It was originally thought that FNB Stadium would only host the ceremonies but it has been confirmed that this is not the case and that it will host the two games will the other matches will be played in eThekwini, Rustenburg, Nelson Mandela Bay and Mbombela.
Dominic Chimhavi, SAFA’s spokesman, told the Siya crew, “Yes, Jo’burg will host the first and last games. The other games haven’t been decided yet, that will be decided in the next board meeting that will comprise of the labour government and the local organising committee of SAFA. We don’t know who will host what yet.”
Also, Sports Minister, Fikile Mbalula, has said in a statement, "The City of Jo’burg will host both the Opening and Closing games and ceremonies at the Soccer City. The following host cities will host the 2013 Afcon and they will use the 2010 World Cup Stadia, eThekwini (Moses Mabhida), Rustenburg (Royal Bafokeng), Nelson Mandela Bay (Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium) and Mbombela (Mbombela Stadium).
Despite the clarification it still remains a pity that the Western Cape will be left without any games in the tournament after Cape Town was overlooked as a host.

Why Polokwane not hosting even a single game, that selection team was not fair,do something even if they can host one game so that they can feel as a part of south Africa

Guys stop being such idiots, its obvious that a ceremony is followed by a game, the statement meant that only two games will be played at FNB, the opening match and the final match, not only the ceremonies lol
