Chippa Hold Pirates

05 December 2012

Chippa v Bucs

Absa Premiership

Result: Chippa United 0-0 Orlando Pirates

Date: 5 December 2012

Venue: Athlone Stadium

Orlando Pirates and Chippa United were unable to break the deadlock as they played to a 0-0 stalemate on Wednesday night.

The draw put Pirates within three points of rivals Kaizer Chiefs going into the weekend’s derby, while Chippa are still looking for a third win of the season.

Benni McCarthy forced the first save of the match when his 25-yard effort tested Daouda Kassaly. Manti Moholo then also came close with a left-footed strike, but he also couldn’t get past Kassaly.

It was then the turn of Chippa to try their luck and just before the half hour Larry Cohen got on the end of a Cole Alexander cross, but saw his effort go just wide of the goal, much to the relief of Senzo Meyiwa.

It looked like both teams were going to be forced to enter the break without any goals for the efforts, but The Chilli Boys refused to give up and came desperately close when Msekeli Mvalo’s shot was cleared off the line by Daine Klate.

Ten minutes into the second half, a brilliant through ball from Brent Carelse put Petrus Ngebo into space, but the veteran fluffed his first touch as the Pirates defenders were able to recover.

At the other end, it was McCarthy who beat the offside trap and looked destined to score, but a brilliant diving save from Kassaly kept the scores level.

The visitors continued to press and just before the hour mark it was Klate who nearly snuck in a volley at the far post, but the winger only managed to find the side netting.

Two fine saves within the space of two minutes from Meyiwa then kept Pirates in the match. First the goalkeeper saved a near own goal off the head of Jele and was then forced into an acrobatic save to keep out James Okwuso’s thunderbolt.

A late flick from substitute Collins Mbesuma looked like it was destined for the back of the net, but again Kassaly made the telling save.

Chippa: Daouda Kassaly, Martin Moonsamy, Robert Tomanyane, Msekeli Mvalo, James Okwuoso, Buyani Sali, Larry Cohen, Cole Alexander (Diego Brown 71), William Twala (Sindiso Nqothani 72), Brent Carelse (Andile Mbenyane 82), Petrus Ngebo

Subs: Abduraghmaan White, Mkhanyiseli Siwahla, Welcome Qalanto, Khanyiso Matomane.

eish, the way Chippa United played it was classic, they gave Bhakaniya a real going into the derby. so u ca't compare beating Ajax at Peter Mokaba with Beatin Aajx at green Point. So Chippa like real homeboys in their hood. Come Saturday Khune will try to mimick Kassaly but wil not stop the balls comin in. B

I'm watching this chippabucs united game, and I can see pirates played with all their strength, Ntshumayelo is doing wonders with the ball, but Benni, Mabena and Masuku are closely wached by chippa defenders. As for RDS, he was suppose to be a refree trainer bcoz he likes telling refrees what to do.
