Chiefs Held By Celtic

Celtic v Chiefs

ABSA Premiership

Result: Celtics 0-0 Chiefs

Venue: Seisa Ramabodu Stadium

Referee: Charl Theron

Date: 24 September 2011

Bloemfontein Celtic held Kaizer Chiefs to a goalless draw in an Absa Premiership match at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium.

The match got off to a fast start as Celtic had the first chance of the match in the third minute as Ipeleng Seepamore hit a long range strike that was well saved by Ithumeleng Khune.

With ten minutes played the match remained in the balance as possession was evenly split and being battled in the centre of the park.

Stembiso Ngcobo had a good chance in the 15th minute as he got his head on the ball inside the area but his attempt went harmlessly over the bar.

Chiefs began to dominate proceedings with 25 minutes played as Jimmy Tau whipped in a menacing cross attempting to pick out Ngcobo but the Celtic defence did well to intercept the cross.

Chiefs were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area in the 31st minute, Josta Dladla stepped up and fired a powerful free-kick just over the bar.

Moments later Lehlohonolo Majoro had back-to-back opportunities, first flicking the ball just over the bar and then firing just wide from 20 yards out.

In the closing ten minutes of the first-half the Amakhosi began to attack with menace as they had the Celtic defence pinned back deep in their own half.

The Siwelele defence managed to hold out as the teams went into the half-time interval with the score deadlocked at 0-0.

The second-half began the same way the first-half ended with the Amakhosi attacking the Celtic defence as they desperately went in search of an opening goal.

Against the run of play Siwelele came close to breaking the deadlock in the 50th minute. Mulomowandau Mathoho made a great run straight through the heart of the Chiefs defence who failed to gain control only to have the ball cleared off the line by Jimmy Jambo.

In the 55th minute Reneilwe Letsholonyane hit a long range strike but his effort was straight at Patrick Tignyemb.

Celtic began to find their feet as it was end to end action. The home side’s defence were not defending as deep as they were in the first-half and Celtic began taking the match to the Amakhosi.

With 70 minutes played neither ‘keeper was yet to be suitably tested as the match had not produced a real clear cut opportunity.

Crunching tackles went flying in at both ends as the match began to take a very physical approach.

Clifford Mulenga spotted Khune off his line in the 76th minute but his long range lob went harmlessly over the cross bar.

The closing ten minutes of the encounter produced end to end action but both sides failed to be clinical in the final third. Both teams had good chances but they could not take them as the match ended 0-0.
