Chiefs Claim Hollow Victory

ABSA Premiership

Date: 21 May 2011

Result: AmaZulu 1 – 2 Kaizer Chiefs

Venue: Moses Mabhida Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs defeated AmaZulu by two goals to one in the final round of ABSA Premiership matches. But the victory in the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon was not enough to see the Amakhosi overtake the sides ahead of them and therefore end the season in third place.

AmaZulu went ahead through a Lehlohonolo Majoro goal before Jimmy Tau and then Knowledge Musona scored for Chiefs.

AmaZulu made their visitors work for the three points and took an early lead when Majoro netted in the sixth minute. Chiefs wiped out the deficit in the 17th minute when the Glamour Boys captain, Jimmy Tau, pulled a goal back.

Chiefs then bossed the match but struggled to test Mbongeni Mzimela, as only four of their fifteen shots were on target and with full time looming it looked as if Chiefs would be settling for a draw. But in the 88th minute Tshweu Mokoro handled inside the AmaZulu penalty area, gifting Chiefs a spot kick in the dying minutes.

Knowledge Musona stepped up and beat Mzimela to ensure that Chiefs end their 2010/2011 season with a victory. But with their Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates winning the title in dramatic fashion, the victory is a hollow one for the Chiefs faithful.

AmaZulu: Mbongeni Mzimela, Tangeni Shipahu (Ayanda Dlamini 63’), Belux Bukasa Kasonga, Siyabonga Vilane (Thamsanqa Teyise 63’), Carlington Nyadombo, Tsweu Mokoro, Andile Khumalo, Sithembiso Dlamini, Sibusiso Hadebe, Ramson Zhuwawo and Lehlohonolo Majoro (Thami Sangweni 78’).

Kaizer Chiefs: Itumeleng Khune, Punch Masenamela, Valery Nahayo, Thomas Sweswe (Abia Nale 89’), Jimmy Tau, Mandla Masango (Sthembiso Ngcobo 69’), Siphiwe Tshabalala, Josta Dladla (Mthokozisi Yende 68’), Tinashe Nengomasha, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Knowledge Musona.

Scorers: Lehlohonolo Majoro 6’ (AmaZulu), Jimmy Tau 17’ (Chiefs) and Knowledge Musona 90’ penalty (Chiefs).

As a die-hard Chiefs supporter, id like to see Bobby Motaung breaking the bank thi tym. Its not enough 2 buy out-of-contract playaz and youngsters and expect to win the league. Oue 5 draws in a row killed us. nd Losing after pie-rats games means VV lack in mentally preparing the boys. WE WILL BE BACK WITH FIRE
