Bucs Fire Blanks Again
15 October 2011
ABSA Premiership
Date: 15 October 2011
Result: Orlando Pirates 0-0 AmaZulu
Venue: Orlando Stadium
Referee: Phillip Tinyane
Orlando Pirates' goalscoring woes continued as they had to settle for a point from their clash with AmaZulu at the Orlando Stadium this evening.
Pirates started off looking like champions, passing the ball around confidenty but without creating any real chances. Oupa Manyisa and Stanton Lewis traded speculative efforts with neither troubling the goalkeepers.
The visitors began to grow in confidence as the half wore on, pressuring Pirates in the midfield into making mistakes. Thulasizwe Mbuyane got into the six-yard area with the ball at his feet but dawdled in transferring the ball to his stronger right boot and AmaZulu were able to recover.
Pirates skipper Lucky Lekgwathi buried his free header in the 22nd minute but it was disallowed because of pushing and the Ghost voiced their disapproval of referee Phillip Tinyane. Siyabonga Sangweni had a second header go wide as the Sea Robbers exposed AmaZulu's inability to deal with set-pieces effectively.
The jitters continued to reverberate through the visitor's defence as they hung back, fluffed their clearances and keeper Mbongeni Mzimela chose to do a spot of dribbling in his area. Andile Jali hit the crossbar from range with a fabulous effort that had AmaZulu captain Bukasa Kasongo plead with his midfielders to close the Pirates attackers down.
The hosts were in full control but struggled to engineer any decisive opportunities which has been a problem plaguing their football in recent games.
AmaZulu seemed content to live dangerously and just about survived two goalmouth scrambles without conceding. For all their possession, Pirates were about as toothless as a toad in front of goal.
Ruben Cloete hoofed a dipping shot in from 30-yards out and it almost wrong-footed Mzimela, taking a nasty bounce off the turf just before the hour.
Pirates had yet another opportunity with a free-kick from the edge of the area in the 63rd minute which deflected off Kasongo and forced in Mzimela into a smart save. The AmaZulu captain recovered well to clear the rebound.
Ayanda Dlamini had a rare shot in anger for the visitors whistle over the crossbar, sounding a warning to Pirates that the men in green were not out of the contest.
Strikers Benni McCarthy and Ndumiso Mabena were sent on as Pirates continued to plug away at the AmaZulu defence. The former let fly with a couple of ambitious efforts and Mbuyane saw a spectacular diving header go wide in the latter stages of the half but in the end, Pirates had completed an astonishing 270 minutes without finding the back of the net.
AmaZulu had two good chances in the final minute of time added on but they too were stifled in their attempt to get off the mark.
Orlando Pirates: Josephs, Cloete, Sangweni, Lekgwathi, Jele, Manyisa, Jali, Doutie (McCarthy 65'), Klaite, Chansa (Mabena 71'), Mbuyane (Bester 85')
AmaZulu: Mzimela, Teyise, Van Heerden, Kasonga, Nyadombo, Hadebe, Sangweni (Kgatla 80'), Zhuwawo, Shipahu (Chavula 60'), Dlamini, Lewis (Senamela 60')

I dont blame u Rats fans cos u didnt choose Rats on ur own, u were still minors when u fell for Pirates, u couldn’t make appropriate and effective decisions---by then u didn’t kno what was wrong/rite...But I blame your guardians who told u Rats was a great thing ever when u were young, dey imposed Rats into ur brains and u listened to dem but u didn’t kno anyway and now u hav 2 leave with ur choice...u chose Rats...so deal with it!!!…but now u r all above 16 yrs and u can revisit ur decision and see if it was a rite decision…and can still change for ur own health…
