Baron Back At Training

20 November 2012

Wits’ goalkeeping department has been boosted with the return of veteran shot-stopper, Emille Baron. The 33-year-old has recovered from the lengthy injury that forced him onto the sidelines for a long period of time.

Wits team manager, George Mogotsi, confirmed that coach Antonio Lopez Habas and his technical team have a full squad of players to select from. “We are having a full squad and everyone is back. He (Baron) is training and is waiting on the coach to confirm his readiness to play,” said Mogotsi.

Baron’s return is an added boost to the goalkeeping department as the team recently welcomed Jackson Mabokgwane back to training.

Wits had the inexperienced Steven Hoffman and former Santos keeper, Ryan Harrison, doing duty for the team in the absence of both Baron and Mabokgwane. However, with their return, there will be stiff competition for a starting berth in Habas’ team.

Baron has struggled with injury since joining The Students and will now be looking to remain injury free as he challenges for the number one jersey.

Wits take on Ajax Cape Town on Tuesday in an Absa Premiership clash at the Bidvest Stadium and although the keeper department is back to full strength, it remains to be seen if Hoffman will retain his place between the sticks.
