Awal Signs With Maritzburg

08 August 2012

Maritzburg United have signed Mohammed Awal as the club looks to bolster their defence ahead of their 2012/13 PSL campaign. The Ghanaian has signed with the Team of Choice after completing a successful trial with the side.

The club’s chairman, Farook Kadodia, told the Siya crew that Awal has been signed on a long-term deal. “Yes, he has signed with us on a long-term deal. It’s a three-year deal with an option of two years,” said Kadodia.

The former Asante Kotoko player was unveiled at the KZN-based side alongside Mario Booysen, who has rejoined the team from SuperSport United in a swap deal involving Mor Diouf.

The two players will be expected to play a key-role in the team’s defence this season, under the guidance of coach Ernst Middendorp.

Maritzburg have also confirmed that first-choice goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters has signed a new four-year deal.

i like this team Maritzburg United, people dont actually notice this, but this is one of the very few clubs in the PSL who scout for talent throughout Africa . They sign players who turn out to play key roles within the teams season campaign. they import the talent - while the lazy fat cats sit back and snap up these african stars a season later. its happened so many times before. I wont mention any names but a certain PSL club has a scouting network running on a tight budget in Zimbabwe . every foreign player to come through the ranks at this club over the past 5 seasons have been scouted by this network in Zim. i believe in and stand by this clubs view that the best players in africa come from zimbabwe - hence their 106th place on the FIFA rankings is all but proof to this pudding.
